Flex Power Modules have recently announced the inclusion of 2 new modules to their BMR491 range. These digitally controlled Advanced Bus Converter packaged modules come in a quarter-brick format with power ratings of 1400W continuous/ 2400 W peak for BMR4912307/856, and 1540 W continuous / 2450 W peak for the BMR4913208/857 variant. Each device delivers a nominal output voltage of 12 V with input voltage ranges that include 48-56 V and 40-60 V for data centre applications. [1]

Figure 1 shows the third version has a continuous output power of 1540 W, and can deliver a peak power level of up to 2450 W for 1 second. This version of the BMR491 has a typical efficiency of up to 97.5% at 48Vin / 50% load. [2]

Both models are in the industry standard eighth-brick format - 58.4 x 22.7 x 14 mm with baseplate - and with advanced thermal management techniques achieve better than 97% efficiency at half load, with high efficiency maintained to less than 10% load. Isolation is 1500 VDC, input to output and input to baseplate, complying with IEC/UL/EN 62368 safety standards. Tight regulation is provided with typically 50µs transient load response, and pre-bias start-up is guaranteed. [3]

Standard features for the BMR491 include hybrid regulated ratio (HRR) for the 48-60 V input versions, active current sharing for the 40-60 V version enabling paralleling of up to 5 modules, output over voltage protection, output short-circuit protection, over temperature protection, and a digital interface using the PMBus protocol using either the 4-pin or 7-pin industry standard.
