A flood of ultraviolet disinfecting products have hit the market since the COVID-19 pandemic hit and Lg is now using the technology to keep the water from the refrigerator’s built-in dispenser free of germs. The company’s InstaView Door-in-Door Side-by-Side Refrigerator with UVnano uses ultraviolet LED light to “virtually eliminate” bacteria on the nozzle.

LG says its UVnano technology operates once every hour to remove “up to 99.9 percent of bacteria” such as E. coli, staph, and pseudomonas aeruginosa (which can cause pneumonia) on the refrigerator’s dispenser tap. It is unclear whether the technology is effective against COVID-19, but it still offers greater peace of mind that the water from the refrigerator is safe to drink. LG said it plans to announce pricing and availability details in the coming months. [1]

Figure 1 shows with a more immersive tinted glass panel in the 2021 refrigerator, the new design complements the seamless InstaView Door-in-Door refrigerator’s flat stainless steel design and elegant aesthetic. And because the InstaView window is 23 percent larger than previous models, seeing what’s inside is easier than ever.[2]

LG claims that the refrigerator promises to reduce cold air loss by 41%. The InstaView French Door refrigerator features a large fridge section at the top and the freezer section at the bottom.The new refrigerator also comes equipped with Hygiene Fresh+ technology which promises to eliminate 99.999% bacteria and also removes bad odor. The refrigerator also comes with LG's own UVnano technology which keeps the water-dispenser clean and germ free. The UVnano operates automatically once every hour to remove up to 99.99% bacteria on the refrigerator's dispenser tap. Users can also activate the UVnano feature at their convenience with the press of a button.

Best-in-class display

Additionally, equipped with convenience features, the refrigerator maximizes internal space for additional storage with multiple dedicated sections such as – Utility box that regulates the perfect temperature for small items such as deli and cheese at around 3.5℃. The 2021 InstaView refrigerator also comes with LG’s Slim SpacePlus Ice System, a door-mounted slim ice maker that, unlike conventional ice makers, provides more storage space in the freezer. The new model also comes with LG’s Inverter Linear Compressor Technology which promises to consume less energy and offer up to 51% savings. The company will also be offering 10-year compressor warranty and a 20-year lifetime certified by VDE Germany with the refrigerator.
The customers will also be able to control the smart refrigerator with the help of LG ThinQ app. [3]
