Apple has released an updated version of its Safari Technology Preview software. The update brings the version number to 142 and includes a ton of changes and fixed across a variety of aspects of the app.

Apple uses its Safari Technology Preview releases as a way to give web and extension developers a way to test their wares against a future version of the software. This latest Technology Preview is based on the version of Safari that currently ships as part of macOS Monterey — Safari 15.4. [1]

Figure 1 shows the current Safari Technology Preview release is built on the Safari 15.4 update and it includes Safari 15 features introduced in macOS Monterey.

The Safari Technology Preview update is available through the Software Update mechanism in System Preferences to anyone who has downloaded the browser. Full release notes for the update are available on the Safari Technology Preview website.

Apple's aim with Safari Technology Preview is to gather feedback from developers and users on its browser development process. Safari Technology Preview can run side-by-side with the existing Safari browser and while designed for developers, it does not require a developer account to download. [2]

Apple’s primary reason behind the testing of new features on its browser is to get feedback from developers, for which, users don’t need to download any special developer account to make it accessible.

For those who are unfamiliar, Safari Technology Preview is mainly aimed at more advanced Mac users who want to try out the upcoming web technologies in Safari browser on iOS and macOS by getting the latest layout technologies, visual effects, developer tools, and more without altering the primary Safari browser.
