MG Motor India has announced commencing exports to Nepal from its production facility in Halol, Gujarat. The company's top-selling model, the MG Hector SUV has become the first product from the brand that will be exported from India to Nepal. MG Motor India says this is the first step towards its expansion plan of exporting cars to other South Asian countries from India. The sales and service-related activities for the Hector SUV will be taken care of by Paramount Motors Pvt. Ltd., MG's Nepal-based dealer partner. [1]

Figure 1 shows in India, the MG Hector is currently priced from Rs 13.5 lakh to Rs 19.35 lakh (ex-showroom). It comes in four broad trims: Style, Shine, Smart, and Sharp. As of now, the MG Hector has found over 72,500 homes in India since its launch in June 2019. It locks horns with the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Skoda Kushaq, VW Taigun, Tata Harrier, and Mahindra XUV700.

In related news, the carmaker is preparing to develop a mass-market electric vehicle priced in the range of Rs 10 lakh to Rs 15 lakh. It will rival the Tata Nexon EV. [2]

MG has provided the Hector with petrol and diesel engines. The 1.5-litre turbo-petrol unit (143PS/250Nm) comes mated to a standard 6-speed MT and an optional 6-speed DCT or the new 8-speed CVT gearbox. MG offers the turbo-petrol engine with the option of a 48V mild-hybrid system as well, but with only a 6-speed MT gearbox. The 2-litre diesel engine (170PS/350Nm) is coupled with a 6-speed manual gearbox. [3]

In Nepal, MG will sell the Hector through Paramount Motors Pvt. Ltd, the carmaker’s Nepal dealer partner. In tandem with the Zonta Club of Kathmandu, Passion Drives will support initiatives around raising awareness on the importance of speaking up against domestic violence, work/public place harassment, and child marriage. The dealer partner will further work in areas of community development and other social responsibilities under the MG SEWA initiative. [4]
