Masonite International Corporation a leading global designer, manufacturer, marketer and distributor of interior and exterior doors, today revealed Masonite M-PwrTM Smart Doors, the first residential exterior doors to integrate power, lights, a video doorbell and a smart lock into the door system.

"The debut of Masonite M-PwrTM Smart Doors is a milestone event in that we believe it will fundamentally change homeowners' expectations of their exterior doors," said Howard Heckes, President and CEO. "The revolutionary technology of these doors provides families with the peace of mind that they are always connected and always protected." [1]

Figure 1 shows the doors will have an emergency backup battery in case of a power outage (which would make being locked out a bit of a disaster!) that will last for up to 24-hours, and you can customize the way the motion-activated LED lights behave via an app.

The product is the result of a collaboration between Masonite, Yale, and Ring, and luxury home builders Barringer Homes are also involved. And don't be fooled - this is definitely a high-end item that will likely come with a price tag to match. [2]

The Masonite M-Pwr smart door started as a concept a year ago, but at CES 2022, the company proved it’s a reality. The initial collaboration is a Masonite door, a Yale Assure smart lock, and a Ring Peephole Cam for video surveillance.

The fiberglass door features integrated power to run the wifi and Bluetooth-connected PIR motion sensor, sensors to establish if the door is open or closed, and motion-activated LED lighting so you and your guests can see the door. There’s even a smart hub built in, presumably to help run routines. And there’s an emergency backup battery that offers up to a full day of power, since the grid is becoming unreliable with each passing day. [3]

At the moment, Masonite is only offering its M-Pwr smart doors through a single home builder in Charlotte, North Carolina. While the company plans to partner with additional builders over the next year, it hasn’t said anything about selling the doors to people who want to remodel their homes. [4]
