LG Display presents the Media Chair as one of its flexible OLED solutions at CES 2022. The Media Chair is for personal relaxation that combines a 55-inch curved OLED and a reclining chair. The OLED screen has a curvature radius of 1,500R, which creates the optimal viewing experience. The screen also has Cinematic Sound OLED (CSO), which means the screen itself vibrates to produce vivid and immersive sound. Also, the screen has Pivot features, which means it can rotate from horizontal orientation [1] to vertical so people can enjoy a variety of video content in optimal viewing conditions. The armrest of the chair has a 23.1-inch in-TOUCH LCD to control and use its features.

Figure 1 shows Unveiled in December as a sneak peek for what is to come at CED 2022, the Media Chair is designed to show off the remarkable versatility of flexible OLED screens. Honing in on the lazy-boy market is one way to do it and naturally, the reclining set-up has turned a few heads. But there is more to this innovation than simply chucking a big screen in front of your eyes. LG has put some serious thought into how this ensemble would come together and it shows.

Specifically, the screen features a curvature radius of 1,500R, which LG claims is the optimal angle for user visibility. Additionally, the Media Chair comes with the company’s built-in sound technology Cinematic Sound OLED (CSO), [2] which enables the display to vibrate, creating its own sound without the need for external speakers. Once up and running, however, the real fun begins.

The Media Chair isn’t the only concept LG Display is showing off at CES: it’s also got the “Virtual Ride,” which uses three 55-inch curved 4K OLED screens to create a single giant wrap-overhead display to theoretically feel like you’re cycling outdoors. In addition to being a showpiece, LG Display is also pitching it as a potential alternative [3] to VR headsets, though obviously it’d be a little more convincing if it had some 3D depth. Or perhaps additional screens that wrap around the sides, instead of just vertically.
