In light of the growing smart home and security industry, Schlage is releasing smart door locks in the spring of 2022. This Encode Plus Smart Wifi Deadbolt allows you to lock, unlock, and monitor lock activity with an app. For the first time in the US, this smart lock will support Apple’s home keys for iPhone or Apple Watch, meaning users don’t even need to unlock their devices to unlock their doors. The new lock will also work with Siri, Alexa, Google Assistant, and the Schlage Home app. [1]

Figure 1 shows the lock is available in the same styles and finishes as the Encode: the more traditional Camelot design or the more modern Century option. The only physical difference is the addition of two NFC targets on the keypad screen.

The Encode Plus uses four protocols, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, NFC, and Thread. NFC has been part of Schlage’s commercial options previously, but this is the first time it’s used it in residential locks. There are a few other locks that currently support NFC; one is the Level Lock Touch, but Schlage is the first to come to market in North America with a Home Key-compatible lock. [4]

Control and monitor from anywhere.

Use the Schlage Home app on your smartphone to lock/unlock your door from anywhere, no additional accessory or hub required. You specify who has access and when by setting up to 100 permanent, recurring or temporary lock codes that you can change as you see fit or by sending virtual keys to trusted guests via text or email.

Easy to install and get connected.

There’s no need to purchase an extra accessory or hub to control your lock from anywhere. With built-in WiFi, it connects directly to your home’s network just like your laptop, making it easy and intuitive to use. It’s a snap to install yourself and features built-in alarm technology and a low battery indicator that offers advanced warning for battery replacement. [2]

In addition to HomeKit and Apple home key support, the Encode Plus also features Google Assistant and Alexa support.

The Encode Plus will be priced at $299.99 and will launch this spring. It will be available in two versions, a more traditional Camelot style and a more modern Century style, with both styles available in several color options. [3]
