Kia Carens, the new three-row vehicle from the Korean carmaker will be launched in India on February 15, 2022. The Carens, which is being positioned as a recreational vehicle, or MPV, is based on the company popular compact SUV - the Kia Seltos and comes with the same petrol and diesel powertrains as well. The company recently commenced the series production of the new Kia Carens, while pre-bookings opened on January 14, 2022. In fact, in the first 24 hours of opening bookings, the company received over 7,700 pre-orders for the Caren, showing immense demand for the new Kia vehicle. [1]

Figure 1 sjows In January, Kia India commenced the production of the new Carens at the Anantapur manufacturing facility in Andhra Pradesh. The upcoming three-row MPV or Recreational Vehicle (RV) will take on the fight with the rivals such as Hyundai Alcazar and Tata Safari.

Carens MPV will be launched in India with multiple powertrain and gearbox options. Under the hood, the car will pack a range of options including 1.5-litre naturally-aspirated petrol engine, 1.4-litre turbo petrol engine, and 1.5-litre diesel engine. For transmission, there will be an option of a six-speed manual, seven-speed DCT, or a six-speed automatic gearbox. [2]

Kia Carens: variants and features

The Carens will be available in five trim levels – Premium, Prestige, Prestige Plus, Luxury and Luxury Plus.

All variants will pack in a long list of safety features, including six airbags, ESC, stability control, hill start assist and hill descent control, a tyre pressure monitor, and all-wheel disc brakes. In terms of comfort and convenience features, all variants will get AC vents for all three rows and a one-touch electric tumble function for the middle-row seat.

Fully loaded variants, meanwhile, will get all the feel-good kit, including ventilated front seats, a 10.25-inch touchscreen with connected tech, a sunroof, an air purifier, wireless phone charger, among others.

Kia Carens: expected price

Expect the Carens to be priced in the Rs 12 lakh-20 lakh (ex-showroom) range, with rivals expected to include higher variants of the Maruti XL6 and Mahindra Marazzo, along with larger three-row SUVs such as the Hyundai Alcazar and Mahindra XUV700. [3]

The Kia Carens will be offered in five trims - Premium, Prestige, Prestige Plus, Luxury and Luxury Plus. The safety suite is standard across the trims with six airbags, ESC, VSM, BAS, HAC, Downhill Brake Control, all-wheel disc brakes, TPMS, ABS and other features. The fully loaded Carens will come with a 10.25-inch infotainment screen, fully digital instrument panel, single-pane sunroof, roof-mounted aircon vents for 2nd and 3rd rows, foldable tray table with a cup-holder, ventilated front seats, 64-colour ambient lighting, air-purifier, Bose speaker system, one-touch 2nd row tumble and more.
