The Movano Ring, a health and fitness tracking wearable device, will be showcased at CES 2022. The gadget currently features many standard fitness tracking tools covering your activity and sleep. Movano aims to add blood pressure and glucose level monitoring in the future.

Movano, a health tech company, will demonstrate the Movano Ring at CES 2022, its first wearable. The Movano Ring aims to help you monitor your general health alongside mitigating the risks of chronic illnesses. The wearable will be affordable, according to Movano, and will make health and fitness data easier to understand for customers. [1]

Figure 1 shows the Movano Ring will measure heart rate, heart rate variability (HRV), sleep, respiration rate, temperature and blood oxygen. That will put it head-to-head with the Oura Ring, although some elements might need FDA approval. [4]

At the moment, Movano is currently pursuing Class II designation to add vital medical data to its products, according to CEO John Mastrototaro. However, he revealed that the initial Ring would probably not have Food and Drug Administration clearance at launch.

Although the Ring is currently still in development, its first edition is expected to launch by the second half of 2022, and that would only be a beta version. As per the company’s website, it would be available in four colors – black, silver, gold, and copper. The pricing has not yet been revealed. [3]

Movano is trying to make serious health devices

It’s one thing to measure biosignals and show the results in nice graphs. It’s quite another to create a medical-grade device that’s stylish enough for everyday wear and approved by the FDA. That’s apparently what Movano is trying to do. CEO John Mastrototaro told The Verge that his company aims to eventually make products that the agency designates as Class II devices, which would put them in the same regulatory category as wheelchairs and home pregnancy tests, according to the agency. He says that functionalities in the future will include non-invasive glucose monitoring and blood pressure tracking.

Pring-Mill points out that a technology showing the effect of consumer choices could force users to confront uncomfortable truths about the foods that are available — and that they enjoy. He points out that up to 80% of food sold in grocery stores contains refined sugar. That means that a continuous blood glucose monitor would show a spike after a user ate, well, most foods that are currently available. [2]
