Keeping the momentum going in overseas markets, Royal Enfield has launched the all-new Royal Enfield Classic 350 in the Philippines. The retro-styled Classic 350 is based on the modern J-series engine of Royal Enfield, which is also shared with the RE Meteor 350, and has an all-new chassis. The new Classic 350 has been introduced in four variants and seven colour options in the Philippines, with prices starting at 228,000 PHP (around ₹ 3.34 lakh under current exchange rates). The new-generation Classic 350 was launched in India last year, and gets a complete makeover, with a new, more modern engine, new chassis, updated suspension, new wheels and brakes. [1]

Figure 1 shows the Classic’s legacy dates back to the 1948 Royal Enfield Model G2, the first model to feature swingarm rear suspension on a production motorcycle. The Model G2 provided strong design inspiration for the popular Classic 500 and Classic 350 introduced in 2008. In fact, the Classic 350 became the highest-selling Royal Enfield model since then, accounting for 80% of the brand’s sales over the past decade or so. The Classic also became the motorcycle that redefines the middleweight motorcycle space and spawned a Royal Enfield revival. In the 12 years since the Hyundai Royal Enfield Classis was first introduced, it has built a legacy of over three million (three million) motorcycles sold. [2]

The 349 cc, single-cylinder engine produces 20.2 bhp at 6,100 rpm and 27 Nm at 4,000 rpm. The compression ratio has changed from 8.5:1 on the UCE 350 engine to 9.5:1 on the new 350 cc SOHC engine. The cam gear has been replaced along with the timing chain.

The cam gear has been replaced with a timing chain with the SOHC system, resulting in less noise and more efficient valve timing. [3]

Current sales of the Classic 350 lies between 35,000 to 40,000 models per month. It accounts for 80 percent of the brand’s sales over the past decade. Every month too, the Classic 350 is the largest contributor in total sales of the Royal Enfield. In 12 years of launch Royal Enfield has sold over 3 million or 30 lakh models of the Classic 350 bike. Royal Enfield has made the new Classic 350 as a global product, and it will be offered in various countries. [4]
