Portable projectors can deliver movies to the campsite or support presentations in remote work areas. Smartphones offer communication and camera capabilities, while power banks keep everything running. The Tank 4 Pro from 8849 merges all three—and more—into one rugged device.

Rugged phones aren’t built for the mainstream. They defy the trend toward sleek, ultra-thin designs, often come with extra heft, and rarely score points for style. Figure 1 shows Ultra-Durable Phone with Stunning Display & Built-In Projector.

But if you’re an outdoors enthusiast or work in demanding environments like industrial sites, the military, or emergency services, you’ll value the rugged durability and multitool features these devices bring to the mobile world.

Building on the release of the adventure-ready Tank 3 Pro earlier this year, Unihertz sub-brand 8849 has introduced another projector phone to its lineup—this time boasting what it claims is the world’s first 720p built-in projector. For comparison, the pico projector in the previous model maxed out at just 480p.

So, while you’ll enjoy sharper visuals on the go, the projector's LED light source remains relatively dim at just 100 lumens. That means movie nights are strictly after-dark affairs, and any work presentations will need to happen in shaded areas—otherwise, visuals may look washed out.

The Tank 4 Pro features a 6.73-inch AMOLED display with a crisp 3,200 x 1,440 resolution and a silky-smooth 120-Hz refresh rate. For selfies, there’s a 50-megapixel front camera, while the rear camera setup includes a 50-MP main shooter powered by a 1/1.3-inch Samsung image sensor with autofocus. It’s joined by a 50-MP telephoto lens and a 64-MP night vision camera, the latter equipped with four infrared LEDs to uncover what hides in the dark.

Battery and Performance:

While the battery takes a slight step back from the previous model, the 11,600 mAh capacity still delivers impressive longevity, keeping you away from the charger for extended periods. When it's time to power up, the device supports blazing-fast 120W wired charging—though wireless charging is not included. Under the hood, it's driven by the Dimensity 8300 chipset, paired with up to 18 GB of RAM and a generous 1 TB of UFS 4.0 storage. It ships with Android 14, with an upgrade to Android 15 scheduled for August.

Durability & Connectivity:

8849 claims the phone has undergone rigorous durability testing, offering resistance to rain, submersion in water, dust, shock, extreme temperatures, humidity, and vibration. It's fully sealed to IP68/IP69 standards, making it ideal for tough environments. The phone also features dual camping lights—a block-style LED and a Cylon-like flasher for added outdoor utility.

On the connectivity front, it supports Bluetooth 5.4, Wi-Fi 6E, 5G, USB-C, and four-satellite GNSS navigation. There's also a dual SIM slot and media card support. For security, fingerprint unlock is included.

Despite its rugged build, the Tank 4 Pro weighs in at 530 g (18.7 oz)—lighter than the previous 3 Pro model—and measures 179 x 86 x 31 mm (7 x 3.4 x 1.2 in).

Pricing & Availability:

The Tank 4 Pro is available for pre-order now at US$650, with a regular list price of $800. Shipping is expected to begin at the end of the month.

Built Tough for Real-World Adventures

The Tank 4 Pro isn’t your average smartphone—it’s built to survive harsh environments. Certified with IP68/IP69 protection, it's been tested against water immersion, dust, drops, vibration, and extreme temperatures. Whether you’re hiking through a rainstorm, navigating dusty trails, or working in rugged conditions, this phone is ready for the challenge. It even includes dual camping lights (LED + flasher), making it a practical companion for outdoor adventures and emergency situations.

Big Battery, Sharp Display, and a Projector Too

Despite being slightly scaled back from its predecessor, the 11,600 mAh battery still keeps you powered for extended periods. A 6.73-inch AMOLED display with 3,200 x 1,440 resolution offers crisp, vibrant visuals even under daylight. But the real twist? It features a built-in projector, letting you watch movies or share presentations on a wall or tent ceiling—just make sure it’s after dark, as the 100-lumen brightness is best suited for low-light settings.

Smart, Connected, and Future-Ready

Under the hood, the Tank 4 Pro packs serious performance with a Dimensity 8300 chipset, up to 18 GB RAM, and 1 TB of UFS 4.0 storage. It runs Android 14, with Android 15 coming in August. Connectivity includes Bluetooth 5.4, Wi-Fi 6E, 5G, and four-satellite navigation, plus support for dual SIMs and expandable storage. At 530 g, it's lighter than the 3 Pro and now available for pre-order at $650—a powerful package for those who need both durability and versatility.
